Pimlico sits to the south of Belgravia, the latter being one of London’s premier residential districts. Though the architecture in Pimlico is not quite as grand as in Belgravia, it is similar, boasting streets of elegant white stuccoed terraces with impressive classical features. The family-run restaurants, independent stores and riverside setting makes Pimlico a popular place to call home.
Pimlico was largely developed from 1825 onwards, when the master planner and builder Thomas Cubitt mapped out its residential streets. These streets are now protected as part of the Pimlico Conservation Area. Meanwhile, the Dolphin Square development, a self-contained block of flats close to the River Thames, is also a defining feature of Pimlico. Over the years it has been home to many politicians and civil servants due to its proximity to the Palace of Westminster.
This small part of Central London is also noted for its charming garden squares, which includes Warwick Square, and its quality restaurants, some of which are family-run and long-established in the area.
Pimlico benefits from excellent transport links, including nearby Victoria Station, while the West End and Westminster can be easily reached on foot. This is the ideal place for commuters looking for a convenient location and more affordable accommodation.
